Our story

In March 2020, during the pandemic when much of the world was in lockdown, our founders, Tosin Adeoti and Mercy Arinola Adebayo, gathered a group of book-loving friends and started an online book club. Each person invited others, and before long, it had grown into Africa's largest community of bibliophiles. The small group on Telegram, where members shared what they read weekly and monthly, grew so large that we decided to expand to other social media platforms to reach a wider community.

Our goal

The goal of this club is to encourage Nigerians (and everyone) to read at least one book per month. Every month without fail, we spend hours and money to keep Naija Book Club going. For over six years, it has remained consistently free and alive, reaching out to more and more bibliophiles and creating a meaningful space for them. It is thoroughly a labor of love by a few volunteers, apart from the co-founders. What started as a way to stay connected with others during a dark season has led to a thriving online community of bibliophiles from across the world.
